Hope for unemployed youngsters in Bishop Auckland
Unemployed 16-25-year-olds from Bishop Auckland are being encouraged to take part in a free 12-week course to learn new skills and improve their confidence and motivation. The Prince’s Trust Team programme will start on Monday 11 May at The Lightfoot Institute, Bishop Auckland. It will be run for The Prince’s Trust by Stockton Riverside College. The course will involve team building activities, a week-long residential visit, a community project and two weeks of work experience. Young people who get involved will also get advice on how to write CVs and discover what options are available to them after the course.
Team is one of the flagship courses for leading youth charity The Prince’s Trust. Set up by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1976, The Trust works with those who have struggled at school, have been in care, are unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. During the Team programme, young people work towards a nationally recognised qualification in personal, teamwork and community skills. Last year, more than three in four unemployed participants went on to find work or enter full-time education or training.
Judith Gill Head of Programmes at The Prince’s Trust in the North East, said: “The Team Programme is a personal development course which enables young people to learn new skills and develop their confidence and motivation. It offers a fantastic opportunity to improve your job prospects and learn life skills.” For more information on joining the Team in Bishop Auckland, call Karen Chapman: 01642 865 583.
Last year, The Prince’s Trust supported 4,000 14-30 year olds across the North East by providing a range of programmes including personal development courses, business start up finance and grants for community projects. The youth charity needs to raise around £1million per week to continue its valuable work. For further information about The Prince’s Trust visit www.princes-trust.org.uk or call 0800 842 842.
