Alf Smith
Alf Smith, seen above on his wedding day, worked for Doggarts from the age of fourteen until his retirement, only leaving to complete his National Service. He was promoted to manager at Bishop Auckland then moved to the shop in Durham where he worked until he retired.
In 1951 Norman Doggart had two chalets at Seaton Point near Alnmouth which Alf and Betty Smith used for two weeks in July. Eight of the family travelled there in Mr Doggart’s chauffeur -driven car. They enjoyed two holidays there.

Lamson Paragon
A customer remembers receiving his change via a wire system in the 1950’s at the West Stanley branch of Doggarts.
